The Cambrian Benevolent Society of Chicago

The Cambrian Benevolent Society enjoys a long and diverse history. It was organized in 1853 in response to the needs of many Welsh immigrants who came to the city ill-prepared for their new life. Its first priority was to raise funds to assist fellow countrymen who found themselves in indigent or unfortunate circumstances. Over time Cambrian has assumed a more cultural role as it strives to preserve a Welsh identity within the city.
