‘HEDD WYN’ is a Welsh language movie with English subtitles.  It was nominated for an Academy Award in the foreign language section in 1993.  It is the story of the bard, Hedd Wyn (Elis Evans) whose poem wins the grand prize at the National Eisteddfod in 1917.  Tragically he is unable to accept the prize due to his death in combat one week earlier.  The carved Eisteddfod chair remains empty and is draped in black in tribute to his ultimate sacrifice.  Huw Garmon stars.

Our first film, ”Solomon and Gaenor”, was shown at the Wilmette Public Library on Friday May 29th, 2009 at 6:30pm and starred Ioan Gruffudd (Solomon) and Nia Roberts (Gaenor) as two young lovers from widely divergent backgrounds.  The movie was set in South Wales in 1911.

On October 26th, 2009 many of us enjoyed a showing at the Oak Park library of the hilarious comedy “Coming up Roses”, kindly loaned to us by Ken Jones.  It was set in Aberdare in the sixties and was entirely in Welsh with English sub-titles.
